Rainy weekend. The peas are coming along great. On Sunday I made an omelet with the chive blossoms, they are edible and have a very delicate onion flavor! The bottom two photos are strawberry and broccoli.
Finally posting! After a bit of a delay I’ve finally got stuff going in the garden again. The chives, peppermint and strawberries survived the winter and are returning in full force. From seed I have radishes, sugar snap peas, borage, morning glories, and moonflowers. From the hardware store I got some lavender, marigolds, geraniums, nasturtiums, tomatoes, broccoli and a bunch of nice looking flowers.
Part of the reason for the slow start was dealing with the many critters that enjoy snooping around my container garden. When I was prepping the soil I kept coming across peanuts, I think the neighborhood squirrels must have come across a bag and hid them away for the winter, to have a ready supply of salty nourishment. I have to say, I think these squirrels do pretty well for themselves, as they are quite pudgy. It is definitely frustration though when you see these fat squirrels furiously digging through your pots with delicate new plant growths, especially since they won’t be finding their treasure. I guess its an even match then, though I just wish they’d let the plants grow a bit more.
Also its been a COLD SPRING. (Or at least compared to last year, the first year I started this gardening thing.) Hopefully now that we’re past mid may the temperatures should be continually increasing.
Overdue update. This little geranium looks like its about to bloom! Otherwise the only things still alive are the chives, mint, strawberries (??) and my little bonsai. Even though winter technically just started I can’t wait for the spring, longer days, warmer weather and time to plant a new round of seeds and see what happens!

Something has been eating my sunflowers, I only have 2 left! One the right is chamomile, doing pretty well, its so dainty and delicate.
In other garden related news I think my zucchini is suffering from powdery mildew..and I also found a disgusting caterpillar inside one of the blooms…so far none of them have turned into zucchini even though there were bees and I tried to pollinate them by hand. On the other hand my cucumbers are doing great, I thought they would be much harder to grow, but they keep coming! Win some and loose some but always learn something. :)
